Community outreach, business outreach, school outreach, media relations, social media, website, advertising, event coordination and staffing
Educating residents of all ages on the importance of stormwater pollution prevention in the High Desert.
Challenge
The Challenge
To meet California stormwater permit requirements, the High Desert communities of Victorville, Hesperia, the Town
of Apple Valley and the County of San Bernardino created a joint committee called the Mojave River Watershed
Group (MRWG). The organization is committed to protecting the Mojave River, its watershed, plants and wildlife, an
the quality of High Desert water against stormwater pollution. MRWG and Westbound are tasked with making sure
residents and businesses understand how stormwater pollution works and are educated on how they can help
prevent a polluted watershed, one of the High Desert's most precious water sources.

The Solution
For 15 years, Westbound has led the public outreach efforts for MRWG - implementing a full-scale community,
business, school and digital outreach campaign. A highly creative toolbox of outreach tactics have included school
assemblies, classroom demonstrations, sing-along-songs, The Droplet eNewsletter, social media channels,
informational videos, a children's book, business materials, scout initiatives, library readings, science fair
participation, and more. MRWG is considered a valuable community environmental partner and resource in the
High Desert.
