THE CHALLENGE

As a result of COVID-19 pandemic impacts, new legislation was put in place in California in which all voters would receive a mail ballot. There were also increased opportunities to vote early by mail, in person and through mail ballot drop-off locations. ROV needed to educate/inform voters of all changes.

THE RESULTS

We launched an integrated marketing and communications campaign that included virtual voter presentations, communications tools, digital media campaigns, E-marketing, media relations, and advertising. Within a two-month period, 60 virtual meetings were conducted reaching more than 2,000 community members. More than 184 media placements were secured in print, TV, radio and online platforms generating 97.8 million unique views online alone. ”Your Ballot. Vote Safe. Vote Early.” resonated well in the County. Compared to the last three Presidential General Elections, registered voter turnout was the highest at 77.24%. Mail ballots accounted for 82% of all votes received in 2020 versus 43.42% in 2016 and 33.72% in 2012.
